“On the set of the Musketeers we are incredibly adolescent! We also
enjoyed making prank calls. I spent half an hour on the phone to
Clarks pretending to be a man who couldn't get his shoe off.” Tom sharing
with us how hard and serious this filming business is... ;)

Tom Burke Audio literary finds this week! This week I’ve discovered some new gems that Tom has featured in. The first isthe audio book “Shamela” .Sadly Tom only has one line in it but it’s still new Tom. The second find is “The Poetry App” which was created by the Josephine Hart Foundation. They regularly hold poetry readings in London and Tom has done a couple of these. Luckily for us some of the performances have made it into the app and can be watched for free! The app is available currently on Apple’s store for IPhones and IPads (this version currently features 3 poems by Tom along with audio and video of the readings.) and also Google’s Play store for Android phones, though it does install on some tablets aswell. (This version has 5 poemson and the videos can be watched full screen.) For pc users and those who don’thave compatible devices the good news is that a website has now been launchedby the Foundation and the videos will be posted there in a few weeks time for us all to enjoy. (Thank you @LesleyDanks1 for the heads up on the apps!)
Tom Burke video finds this week! As well as the audio finds this week I also had passed to me two gems to share with you all! Firstly Shakespeare’s Globe is a documentary dvd about theGlobe Theatre and as well as being a fascinating insight into the Theatre itself it so happens that the version of Romeo and Juliet being performed was starring our very own Mr Burke :) It features lots of behind the scenes and on stage footage of the cast preparing and performing the play. It is an expensive dvd at nearly £20 however the money from your purchase does go to support the running of the Globe Theatre. :) Huge thanks to June Wilson for passing this info to me! The second video find is this one for Operation Smile’s Carols by Candlelight. Ihave had the photos from this 2012 event in the gallery for a while but thank youto @Twitchtwoo for spotting this video! Xx
News on Tom’s next Project-’Gentleman of the Road’.In the last couple of days info has been breaking on Twitter via @SamuelOatley that Tom is working on a Pilot for a new series called ‘Gentleman of The Road’. What has been revealed so far is that Tom is the creator, writer and will be directing the pilot as well as acting in it. The pilot is currently being filmed in Pragueand the story will feature Highwaymen. Will update further when I hear any moreinfo!
Tom appearing at Carols By Candlelight event in LondonTom will (subject to commitments) be doing one of the readings at the City Carols By Candlelight event on the 16th December at St Botolph without Bishopsgate,Liverpool Street, London EC2. The event has been organised by Operation Smile and tickets for adults cost £30.00 each and children £5.00. Judging from previous events it looks to be a fun evening and is raising money for a really worthwhile cause. Details of how to book tickets can be found at http://www.operationsmile.org.uk/carols/

More Tom video finds!Burketeers have been trawling the net and found some more obscure appearances! The first two were filmed to some degree but sadly did not make it to finished productions with Tom. The first is "Owen the operator." A CGI reel of this 2010planned producition has come to light. It's a tantalising glimpse of somethingthat looks very intriguing! The other feature was the film The Sea Change(Island). Based on a novel byJane Rogers , Tom played the lead character of Calum in the initial shoots for this film. Sadly the actual film wasn't shot till 2 years later and Colin Morgantook over Tom's role(can only assume Tom was unavailable.)There are behindthe scenes videos showing some of the scenes shot and it looks like it wouldhave been another one of Tom's trademark dark but complex characters. Finally something that did actually get made - Vadum Profundum! A film madefor the parish of St. Nicholas Deptford about historic figures who lived and worked in Deptford.Tom plays the part of Christopher Marlowe who was a controversial character and playright contemporary with Shakespeare.
More Tom audio finds!Over the last few months more obscure appearances have surfaced featuring Tom. First up are two radio plays- Oswald in Russia by Graham White. In the late 1950s nineteen year old Lee Harvey Oswald, determined to become a significant figure in history, took a trip from the US to Moscow. This drama based on real events looks at a formative moment in the life of the man who would become the world's most notorious assassin.Tom plays the title role of Lee Harvey Oswald in the Radio 4 play first broadcast in 2003. Also broadcast on Radio 4, Tom appeared in the Eliabethan Beauty Law by Lizzie Hopley. Set in 1587 nervous new bride Florence Whitsheet is terrified that she won't live up to her husband's idealised image of her and has prepared for the wedding night. But when the love-blind (and highly superstitious) Alistair (Tom's character) discovers her fake hairpiece, intimate padding, several layers of face-paint and built-up shoes, he collapses in shock, calling for her arrest. The devastated Flo is visited in jail by the Queen's Secretary, Lord Burghley. Due to a need to curb Spanish influence in the country and control the escalating trend in female adornment, a new Beauty Law has been introduced.Under this law, any woman who traps a man of the realm into marriage via sorcery of self-embellishment will be tried under the Witchcraft Act and if found guilty, sentenced to death. Tom gives a hilarious performance in this entertaining play which gives an interesting commentary on the idea of beauty. Also some audio books Tom participated in came to light. Firstly an hour long adaptation of Dante's Inferno. Tom Plays Dante the Pilgrim but it's only a tiny part in the hour long presentation. The other audio book is ‘Pamela.’ You may remember that I'd already posted about Tom's appearance in ‘Shamela’ which was the follow up parody to ‘Pamela’. Well I discovered that the same cast did the original unabridged version on the play playing the same roles. Tom againplays the Squire but has more air time in this one. Be warned though this audiois nearly 22 hours long so not something to listen to in one sitting!
Tom in South Africa this week. This week Tom was, along with Luke,Howie,Santiago and Maimee, in South Africa this week promoting Season 1 of the show which launches on BBC Entertainment in South Africa this weekend. They all participatedin Q & A sessions which hopefully will be broadcast at some point. The cast will also be flying to Paris for a similar event on the 10th/11thDecember so keep an eye out for news of this event. Huge thank you toReetu Kabra (@ReetuKabra) from BBC Worldwide for the info and photos.

Romeo and Juliet audio and literary finds. If you are a fan of Elizabethan music and want to hear Tom do a smidgen of Romeo then you can find the cd of ‘Celebrating Shakespeare: This World's Globe’on Amazon for £20 or buy his featured track for 99p. 25% of each sale goes towards the Globe theatre to keep it running. So if like me you are trying torecreate a full performance of Tom's Romeo and Juliet in a piecemeal fashionthen this is for you. :DTo continue the Romeo and Juliet vein there is also a book out concentratingon the experimental performances of Romeo and Juliet whilst Tom was at the Globe. ‘Pronouncing Shakespeare: The Globe Experiment’ by David Crystaldocuments the experiment in ‘OP’ . ‘OP being ‘original pronounciation’ rather thanthe Standard English version we usually hear. To quote from the book “How didShakespeare's plays sound when they were originally performed? How can we know, and could the original pronunciation ever be recreated? For three days in June 2004 Shakespeare's Globe presented their productionof Romeo and Juliet in original, Shakespearian pronunciation. In an unusualblend of autobiography, narrative, and academic content, reflecting the uniquenature of the experience, this 2005 book by David Crystal recounts the firstattempt in over 50 years to mount a full-length Shakespeare play in originalpronunciation.” The book features interviews and comments from the cast (including Tom) about their experiences.
